Growin' Grassheads!!!

Here are a couple of pictures of the GRASSHEADS!!! It took just under a week to see "hair"!!! We took it upon ourselves to mist the heads to keep them moist!!! J.J.'s somehow lost it's mouth in the process......:-(!! He has the most hair so far. The girls have already started to cut the hair. So far it's the only green grass we've seen in months!! Quite refreshing!!!

Grass Head Family

Today we did another craft from the concoction people. This one we saw in the Feb. 2008 Issue of Family Fun magazine.

This time of year in Minnesota makes us long for warm days, green grass, colorful flowers----everything Spring. So I thought the Grass Head Guys (you can see a finished grass head if you follow that link) would be a fun project to help us gear-up for Spring!!

Grasshead Family

We followed the directions for the most part, but we found that one cup of soil was not nearly enough because our yogurt containers are wider at the top than the bottom. So we ended up with 3 cups of soil per grass head. Also, it's very difficult to get paper to wrap around the container. So we only decorated the front side.

Overall the kids had a fun time. It was slow at first because of the paper issue, but as we went along they really enjoyed decorating their grass head. Hopefully the Grass Head Family will grow a fine head of hair...er....grass!!

Last night Hannah, my twelve year old, walked up to the window and said "Hey, how's it growin' up there?" I just thought that was funny!!!

My Oldest Turns 15 Today...

I know I've spent a lot of time writing about my youngest over on The Diabetes Diary, but I had to write about my oldest today. She turned 15 at 1:42 p.m. CST.....it's a family joke....I tell the kids they aren't a year older until their birth minute!!:-)

Right now she is on her way to share her birthday with her family in Nebraska. She was the first grandchild born on my husband's side of the family. Since my hubby is one of three boys, this entrance into the world was quite a celebration. She also managed to come into the world on my mother-in-law's birthday. This made headlines.....not really....but it should have!!

Jessica is my right hand "woman". She has always been my helper, and in so many ways runs a household better than I do. I'd like to say she had a GREAT trainer, but she is really self-motivated and has that typical first-born over-achiever mentality. Sometimes we do have to pull her back and gently remind her that she's NOT the Mom.....I have to do that with all the girls at times.....must be a girl (woman) trait!!

She loves to quilt. If she could live at our local quilt shop, she would. Seems like when we are there she's helping the ladies in one way or another. She has taken a quilt to our state 4-H competition the past two years. We love going on our annual shop hop for my birthday....she's a great quilting companion. She also loves to knit, and has helped her sisters learn the craft. She absolutely loves horses. Her summers are spent outside either training, cleaning, or riding.

It's hard for me to believe she's a young lady, not the little girl anymore. Time does fly so fast. I'm just so thankful for Jessica and her friendship. She's a constant encouragement to me. I can't wait to watch her future unfold!!!

Happy Birthday Sweetie!!!
